Help us save more lives!

Saved by BARC Animal Saviors

Grizzly

Thank You!! We are truly saving lives - in fact, here are a couple pictures of a dog named Grizzly. She was one of several dogs featured in a recent email .... To see the condition that these dogs are in when they come out of these high-kill rural facilities is truly sobering.

She is horribly matted, covered in burrs and smells like the monkey house at the zoo! But she is super sweet and extremely responsive to training, so I know she will do just fine now that she has a stable home and lots of love.

Thank you again for all you do to keep these emails going and help these precious creatures!!!

Lola

Lola - saved by our BARC Volunteers

July, 2009: This little 5-pound sweetheart is currently a guest at the Roscoe Village Animal Hospital.  She was brought in by a kind-hearted Chicago Police officer who found her in the street with a broken pelvis.  She is 8-10 months old.  She appears to be a Chihuahua/Poodle/Terrier mix.

Lola is doing very well after some extensive TLC from the staff at the animal hospital.  They have described her as “so cute you can’t stand it!”  Lola can walk, jump and play, and she LOVES to be held!  She is also comfortable around large, WELL-BEHAVED dogs.  She likes cats, too.

Lola will be spayed, micro-chipped and updated on her vaccines before leaving the hospital.  The staff is now looking for a loving foster home, or permanent home, for her.  This home should provide a gentle, caring environment that will encourage Lola to continue recovering from her injuries.  It should take another month for her to be 100% healed.

Update: Lola has fully recovered from her injuries and was adopted - she is now enjoying her new life with her forever family!

Twiggy

Because of YOU Twiggy is going to have a good life!

Just a note to let you know that we have adopted Twiggy!  She is a 3-year old American Bulldog-mix and she is really beautiful.  She was a stray that was found in a field outside of Joliet.  Animal control brought her to a vet and she has been there about two weeks recuperating.  She was severely under-weight when she came in (about 45 pounds) and now is about 65 lbs.  She is very shy and timid, but a real sweetheart.

All of these animals are located at a high-kill animal control facility in NW IN.  This facility does not do any vetting or public adoptions, so their only hope is to be saved by A RESCUE....these animals can not be released to individuals.  If these animals are not rescued by their release date, they will be euthanized!

AMBROSE

Ambrose

Ambrose (as named on his paperwork) is a PB Rottie that was surrendered this morning by his owner.  This is the same owner that surrendered Greta last Friday and he decided that he didn't want to keep the male either!  Ambrose is an AKC registered Rottie and the owner did leave his paperwork with the dog.  He was born on 9/3/05....so he is just about 4-1/2 years old.  He is not very tall, but is a large stocky boy that weighs about 80-85 pounds.  He is friendly with people and is a very nice boy.  He lived with Greta and does not seem to mind other dogs.

Update: Ambrose was vetted by BARC.

Before                                   After

Last week (Early June, 2010) a severely injured cat came into the NW IN shelter.  The cat needed immediate medical attention and thanks to BARC (Barriers Against Repeated Cruelty) and RTTC (Realtors to the Rescue) Dody was taken immediately to AETC (Animal Emergency and Treatment Center) in Chicago, IL.

Dody was the most recent recipient of AETCs Emergency Vetting Fund (EVF) sponsored with BARC and RTTR.

Poor Dody had to have his leg and tail amputated...but his doctor describes him as "A LOVE!!" He is sweet and still loves humans despite the abuse and suffering he went through. We also found out Dody is FIV positive.  He is recuperating from his surgery and is doing well after the wonderful AETC doctors and staff saved him.  They are absolutely the best!
